Building Continues

March 2, 2007

Almost a month has passed and the changes at the building site are amazing!  The house is really beginning to take shape, and each week there is an incredible amount of work being done.  On Feb. 24th, there were between 30 and 50 people on site, and so many tasks being done that it was hard to keep up with all the work.  A front porch is beginning totake shape, electrical wiring is being installed and exterior siding is going up.

Cornerstone Church came to help today, along with about 10 young people from Americorp, who are staying at Tugaloo State Park, and working there during the week.  They will be in our area for about another month, and we hope they will be able to return to help with the build.  All the volunteers surely made the workload go smoothly and a lot was accomplished in a short time.

Food was once again provided, by Lucy Gill in the morning and by Ginger's family at lunch time.  Many thanks continue to go out to all who are helping to keep this build on track and all who provide the support , both in nourishment and in moral support for all...

Roof Raising!

January 31, 2007

What a great day for the Reynolds Family! On Saturday, January 27, some 80+ volunteers came out on a cold morning and by the end of the day, there was a house!

Starting at about 8 am, with a warming bonfire blazing, the volunteers gathered to pray for a successful and safe build, and then the work began in earnest. Before an hour had passed, you could begin to see walls being formed, and then, almost magically, both long walls were raised up and secured.  With so many eager volunteers, the leadership of several experienced team leaders was essential in keeping the work progressing and people moving in the right direction.  The skills displayed throughout the day were inspiring and before the sun began to set, there was a real house, with all four walls and a roof securely protecting what will soon be Pat and Keith Reynold's new home.

There are many people to thank for making this day such a success.  First of all, thanks to the many talented and enthusiastic people who came out to experience and help out in this fantastic build.  With over 80 people there, I can't begin to name them all, but if...

The Floor is laid!

January 22, 2007

Today, thanks to the help of some 25-30 people, the floor joists and subflooring was installed.  A little mud didn't slow down the work and the morning was spent hauling joists into place, nailing flooring down, and enjoying the friendship of the workers. Much thanks to family and friends from Lavonia and Hartwell for coming out to speed this project along.

Once again, thanks to Lucy Gill for arranging for refreshments for the crew.  Burger King gave a discount on breakfast biscuits, and Lucy and Patsy provided doughnuts and coffee.  This is such a welcome treat for the workers, especially since the mornings have been a bit cool.

Regina Moon and your work crew from Emmanuel College...Thank you so much for providing such enthusiastic, willing workers to the day!  Your energy and willing spirit help us all to continue and finish the job at hand.  Please continue to come back and see this project through to the end!

Next weekend is the Roof Raising!!  Come join us at this exciting day!!!

Build Begins

January 13, 2007

Today the foundation block was laid at House #4, for the Reynolds family.  Lanier Lunsford is the master craftsman who makes block laying look so easy.  We had help from several board members, from Emmanuel College, and from the Lavonia First Baptist Church youth.  Thanks to everyone who helped with this back breaking part of the build.

Danny Boy's and McDonalds deserve our thanks also, for their generous donations of donuts and sausage biscuits.  Thanks to Ms. Lucy Gill for arranging for the refreshments.

Next week, we will be putting in floor joists and subflooring.  We welcome any help in doing this.  Mark January 27th on your calendar as the day of the Roof Raising.  See you there!
